Welcome from your Principal
Montrose Early Childhood Center offers a unique program of early childhood education for every student. We promote a positive, secure, and inclusive environment, enabling each child to grow with a sense of joy and wonderment.

We use a nationally recognized, state-approved curriculum called “Tools of the Mind”. The central focus of this curriculum is the development of both cognitive and social-emotional self-regulation along with academic skills. Children are encouraged to grow at their own pace in a stress-free, stimulating environment. Classrooms are designed using a variety of learning centers, each with age-appropriate tools for individual creativity and development.

The MECC is an extension of the family experience. We have an active Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) which works tirelessly to augment the mission of the school and to bring families together in support of their child’s educational experience.

Registration for the program starts in early February and continues until all seats are filled. Students must be three years of age by October 1st of the start of a school year to be eligible for the program. Registration materials can be obtained on the district’s website. Preschoolers who receive special services attend at no cost to families, while General Education students may be required to pay tuition based on our sliding scale of fees.

For more information about our school, please call the school at 973-378- 2086 or email Principal Bonita Samuels.

Welcome from your PTA President

On behalf of the Montrose PTA, I would like to welcome everyone to the Montrose Early Childhood Center community! We will strive to keep the lines of communication open between parents, teachers, administrators and the South Orange/Maplewood School District.  We hope everyone will immerse themselves in this community as we provide educational and fun opportunities for our preschoolers, and volunteer opportunities for parents and caregivers. We hope everyone will have an amazing school year!
